How to Spot That Pesky Light at the End of the Tunnel
Potty training. Two words that causes a mix of emotions in parents, guardians and educators. For parents it may be a little fear mixed with excitement and sadness. Educators...its mostly fear. Im just kidding! Kinda.
Anyways, we can all get through this together if we can work in partnership to get to that end goal of no more diapers!!! Also remember that a sense of humor is going to carry you far in this journey. Your child will pee and eventually poop in the potty. It just takes patiences (a lot of it) and teamwork!!
First we have to ask ourselves: Is it time?
Play the circle of life and hold them toward the sky at dawn and the answer to that question will appear. Seriously, you maybe ready to be done buying the expensive diapers, but if your child is not dressing themselves or alerting you to the fact that they have peed or pooped aka do they have the language? then they are probably not ready for potty training and will make it a frustrating experience for everyone. Wait until you can see clear signs of independence. Otherwise, you have been potty trained not them.
Partnership is the name of the game
Parents and educators working together is so important when it comes to potty training. It's because patience and consistency are going to help the child get to the goal faster than just trying things out without speaking with your partners. Because at the end of the day that is what you are. You are working together to never change diapers again! Also remember that it is ok if they are not ready the first time you try and never spring underwear on your educator. It is not going to help your child potty train any faster and it is only going to cause friction in the partnership. Also its a health hazard when your child is in group care and they are having accidents all over the place. We also can not have naked days or allow your child to aim at a tree.
Don' t worry!
We will get to the end of the journey and we will all celebrate together! Take a deep breath and have the conversation and make the plan. Together.
