Family Childcare Educators and the Benefits of Coaching

Working as a Family Childcare educator is hard work and not a joke. The children have jokes but the business aspect of running a business is truly nothing to joke about. We wear many hats as family childcare educators, we are counselors, artists, chefs, educators and sometimes we are wizards who make everything look easy while being covered in paint and glitter. But what many don't know is the many successful businesses have used certain resources to help them get where they are: Mentorship and Coaching.

We are not talking about when you get together with your colleagues who also run family childcare homes and sip on Starbucks (thanks to the holiday gift cards given by parents). We are talking about professional coaching. This is a specific type of help that helps you grow as an educator, a person and a business owner. Because that is what you are a business owner. And the right type of coaching helps you develop healthy work life balance. Which is something that a lot of family childcare educators struggle to maintain and is absolutely crucial in having a successful long lasting business.

How Coaching helps with the hidden struggles of Family Childcare Educators

Coaching comes into play when it comes to play with helping new educators (and even seasoned educators) when learning to navigate state regulations and learning to manage our own family needs with the needs of the families that are enrolled in your program. It is so rewarding to help the children and the families but it can leave you feeling run down and sometimes falling asleep with spaghetti sauce on your shirt.

Here enters coaching:

  1. Overcoming Isolation

  2. Building Confidence to help navigate challenges

  3. Building a stronger business

These are just some of the ways that coaching can help. These are not the only ways, but the list could go on for awhile and you have limited time and I want to discuss how.....

Coaching Transforms your Career and Business

Coaching helps when it is personalized and focused on building your strengths and working on weaknesses.

There are four ways that happens:

  1. Personalized Growth- Good coaching is tailored to the needs of the educator and not trying to create a cookie cutter model of what others are doing but focused on what makes you YOU.

  2. Stronger Communication- Sharpening communication skills when it comes to parents and guardians and community partners will help with building a strong business and making sure everyone is on the same page.

  3. Sustainable Success- Coaching is not a quick fix solution. Coaching is about building long term success on top of a solid foundation. Coaching can help build or rebuild the foundation or if you already have the foundation help with building up the long term success. This goes back to personalized coaching that works for you.

  4. Building Confidence- Sometimes you just need someone to let you know and show you that you are an amazing business owner and educator. Coaching can help boost that awareness and give you the confidence to stretch within your leadership role.
